Well, I have to say, it has been great being home for more than a week now. I have finally been able to get through my mountain of junk mail, organize some things, and even go to the grocery store. But the favorite part of my week (by far) was getting back to boot camp.
So Monday was the first day of a new cycle, which meant assessment. Our assessment was to run about a 1/2 mile, 150 squats, 100 dips, and walking lunges for about 50 0r 60 yards. Total time was 25:05 (or something like that). Lucky for me that since I have been traveling, it was almost like starting from scratch. And also lucky for me assessment had some of my weakest skills - squats and lunges.
I actually think that right now I have no strength in any skill, but I am hoping to change all that.
After we finished the assessment, my legs felt like jello, but it felt just great to be there with everyone, push myself, and finish. But on Tuesday my legs were nice and sore.
Wednesday was a team event - my partner was Joanne. We had to run downhill .9 miles, as a pair had to do 100 push ups, 100 box jumps / step ups, and 100 dips, then run back up the hill, about .9 miles. The downhill was easy, Joanne was rocking the pushups - she did 55 to my 45. We then each did 50 step ups. For the dips, I did 55 and Joanne did 45, which left the uphill run. This is where I really stunk. We have run up this hill countless times, and I am not sure I have ever made it all the way up without walking. Psychologically, my brain quits on me when running uphill all time. Wednesday night was no different, but as I had not been running very much I was not too suprised. I was just hoping I was not slowing down Joanne too much. (And note to self - I will conquer Baldwin soon.)
Thursday my legs were a little sore still / once again. But I cannot complain. I would rather be sore than not able to go.
So Friday was Crossfit. I was having a hard time deciding what to do. There is no place to hide because every WOD has something I suck at. I was thinking, I was going to try to avoid anything with squats (sore legs) and pull ups (cause I really stink at them), but really could not make a decision. Did I mention there was no place to hide? Well, as I was being indicisive, Joanne decides she is going to do GI Jane - which is a burpee with push up, followed by a pull up - 100 times. Lenel decided to join Joanne, so I figured, "why not?"
By rep 35 or so, I knew "why not?" At rep 50 or so I was say, "why?". At some point my pushups from the toes started to fail. Definately need to do more pushups to get back to doing more pushups. But my jumping pullups were better than I have ever done in the past. (Thanks Hope.) At some point in time the torture ended. I have lots and lots to improve upon when doing these skills. (Another note to self, I will eventually try to do unassisted pullups.)
But Joanne and Lenel rocked! Great job you guys. And thanks to Hope for her support.
All in all, while I had a very unproductive week at work, I was just happy to be back with the Bootcamp/Crossfit family and challenging myself again. While I always seem to disappoint myself with my performance, tomorrow is always another day to try to suceed.
