The Pasadena 1/2 Marathon is next Sunday. While I had built up some endurance a few months ago - my endurance is not the same today.
So today, I set out on a training run with Lenel. The goal was to go 8-10 miles. We ended up just shy of 8. Cardio was not too much of an issue, I felt fine breathing. The problem was my upper right leg (top of my hamstring). About two weeks ago I went running for the first time in a while and somehow pulled something. So I was careful to take it easy that following week. Last week it was a little sore on Monday, but overall felt o.k. the rest of the week. Although I stretched well, today after about 3 miles, it was really hurting.
I am not really sure what muscle it is or how I did it, I just know does not feel right. So we ended up alternating running / walking the last 5 miles, most of which was uphill. While I was unhappy with my leg, it did give me confidence that I could finish the 1/2 Marathon (and sometime before 10 hours). Now my actual finishing time? Who knows - just going for finishing.
I am bad at injuries, and don't get them very often. Usually it is just a scrape or something that I ignore. It is a little harder to avoid this. So I need to figure out how to make it all better by next Sunday without letting my training suffer. Hmmmmm.
