In Search Of - September 2009 Edition

So Sunday (9/20) was a day of orienteering. I had not been in a long time, so it was nice to be able to get out. Only downside was that it was going to be at Topanga Canyon Park, which apparently has lots of poison oak and fox tails. So they recommended long sleeves and long pants. As it is summer and always at least 90 degrees, I cannot recall the last time I wore long sleeves and long pants. But I did it anyway.

We did the advanced short course, which meant that we did a lot of off-trail meandering. While we did not see a lot of poison oak, we do a lot of traversing through thick branches. My shirt and pants were filthy and probably saved me tons of scratches on my arms and legs. But must say it was so HOT.

We did not really try running any of it. Mainly because we did not want Jane to twist her ankle in the bad ground - which she did anyway. That and I had pulled a calf muscle on Wednesday, so wanted to take it a bit easy so I could let that heal.

But after 2:00 hours we made it back to the finish: We came in second, but it really does not matter cause we had a great time!
