I did not make it to boot camp Wednesday night. I was a little disappointed because I knew it was assessment night and wanted to see any improvement. But work and a pity party got in the way. Turns out we did not do a full assessment, so I was a little less disappointed.
But Thursday, I made sure to leave work a bit early so I could get back on training track.
I have to say, perspective sometimes in life is interesting. Thursday's training was to run 200m twelve times with 60 seconds of rest between each. There were about 8 of us who met up to crank these out.
In light of my overall time goals, my pace was supposed to be about 1:02 - 1:04 per 200m.
There was a time that completing this and at this pace for 12 reps would have seemed absurd to me. But last night we all went into it thinking, "Gosh this is a fairly easy work out." It is only 1 1/2 miles overall. Hence - perspective. And as it turned out it was much easier than the prior speed work we had done, which consisted of either 400m or 800m runs.
I easily met - and in fact exceeded - my pace goals:
1) 52 seconds; 2) 52 seconds; 3) 53 seconds;
4) 57 seconds; 5) 55 seconds; 6) 55 seconds;
7) 55 seconds; 8) 56 seconds; 9) 55 seconds;
10) 56 seconds; 11) 54 seconds; and
12) 54 seconds.
I was pretty consistent, but not terribly surprised by that. I find it much easier to sprint short distances than run significant distances. Now if I can only get the longer distances down!
