It was a 5K day

So, it was a 5k day on Saturday - which is really a metaphor for me running around all day (figuratively and literally). 1K - A 5K at the Rose Bowl: So marathon training today was a 5K. A group of about 15 of us met up at the Rose Bowl at 7:00 a.m. for our run. Although I woke up early enough to meet the group, I seemed to have awoken without much motivation. I ran the options through my head - including going back to bed or sleeping 10 minutes longer and driving down to the Rose Bowl. I had too much guilt not to get up and being I live less than a mile from where we were meeting, I thought driving would be a bit pathetic. So at the very last second, I got out of bed, got dressed, and jogged slowly down the hill. I felt achy before I even got to the meeting spot. (Add additional whining here.) But I stretched, and we ran. The goal was either a PR (which is your own personal best time) or your marathon pace. I ended up doing neither, running a 31: 48. I technically did PR in the sense that I had not run a 5K under 33 minutes. But I was shooting for 30 minutes. Looking at my times though, it took me almost as long to run one side of the Rose Bowl (yes the more uphill side) than the other 3 sides combined. Damn hills! Why can't the world just be perfectly flat? 2K - House Chores: I returned from the Rose Bowl to take a shower and attack my chores. Knowing I was leaving for a work trip this week, I started my laundry, cleaning and vacuuming. 3K - Work: After my laundry was under control it was time to hit the office. I had some documents to take care of, a few things to get ready being I would be out of the office a few days, and needed to print some stuff out. 4K - Bike Ride: I came home from the office, threw the bike in the car and met up with Tammy for a bike ride. It was our first "training" ride. We chose the San Gabriel River bike path. I had heard a lot about it, but never actually used it before. We rode about 13 miles. It was great - nice bike path and not too hot. The ride was pretty uneventful - with one exception. The one incident was my stupidity sneaking up on me again as I was climbing the only real hill we encountered. I had shifted my front derailer in the wrong direction (making it more - not less - difficult to climb the hill). When I went to fix it by shifting, the chain fell off - releasing all the tension on the pedels. I got my right foot out of the clips about 1/3rd of a second too slow to put my foot down and in complete slow motion fell over. I found it kind of funny. So I sat there an laughed at myself for a minute. Then I flipped the bike over to put the chain back on and then charged back up the hill. Always an adventure! (Or I am just a total clutz.) 5K - Girls' Night Out: Kudos to Joanne for coming up with a Girls Night Out. We met up for wine and cheese, and had a night full of good company and lots of laughter. After wine and cheese, we headed to see Mama Mia - a good chick flick. I thought it was cute. But little did we know it would require audience participation. When "Dancing Queen" came on a group started clapping and also performed the corresponding hand movements. It was a odd, but just added to the festive environment. So after getting up at 6:00 a.m., I crawled back into bed at midnight - setting my alarm early once again so I could pack and catch my plane. While I wish I could have gotten more sleep - it was overall a very fun day.
