Great Urban Race-San Diego (October 24, 2009)

After the Mud Run, it was on to the Great Urban Race. We had competed in this event in Los Angeles back in March, and we ended up medaling. But this one was in San Diego. None of us really knew San Diego, so we had no real expectations. We decided our goal was to come in within the top 50% - although we really had no clue how many teams there were.

Pics from breakfast before the race.

Then it was off to have some fun.
During the race, we covered 10 or so miles (about half on foot) meandering around San Diego - eating pancakes (gross) but we did not really eat them,
driving go carts, putting bead strings together (hard to do after running), took the bus out to Hillcrest and back, We got tattoos - (which were sexy, but temporary), did took a kick boxing class (which was more of a joke than a class), and then ran back to the finish - after stopping by a limo place to take a picture with a man in a suit.

When we got to the finish, we had no idea where we were. They told us we were close to the medals. I thought I misheard the guy, and we were pretty shocked. But it was time for the "after-race" and football. So, here we are at the end - with my favorite post-race event. We had lots of laugh even after the race thanks to Sven Jimmy - our wonderful server. When you are thirsty, you have to appreciate those who can make food and beer appear. Then we waited for the awards. We were close, we had anticipation. So we waited and waited and waited. Nope. Never heard our name. Did not make it.

We were now disappointed. Had they never said anything, we would not care. We would have been satisfied.

But wait - that is not the end of the story. Turns out they screwed up our medals (again)! We did medal - taking 25th - in a field of about 500 teams. So they apologized and mailed us our medal.s A little less dramatic, but o.k. none the less. Turns out 10 minutes would have moved us up 10+ spaces - that was the time we spent waiting for a bus. Too bad I can't really make a career of this. Or can I ????? Hmmmm.
