Why I Need To Find My Place In The World

Friday, after a frustrating day and week at work, I left to go to the Academy, which started a really nice weekend. It was while I was out with friends, doing things that made me happy that I realized I really need to find my place in the world. I might be good at certain things, but doing them does not really make me happy. So I have no idea what the next step is - I just know I need to find the next step!
Friday Night
So Friday Night I headed to the Academy to figure out Fight Gone Bad (see below for more explanation). I had not done all of the components before, so I was hoping Eric would show me how. And he did. I had NO intent of doing it to standard, I was just going to do it and "try." So I spent an easy 30 minutes practicing, never tried to put the full weight on the bar, and was on my way. On my way home Kari called. After a quick shower and change of clothes we met up for "a drink." Well, that was the plan anyway. One turned into two, which turned into . . . . one in the morning again. But we had a few laughs, heard a few good tunes from the '80's and received a few free drinks from unknown bar patrons. Thanks Bill!
Saturday
The Academy was having its grand opening, so there was going to be a "Fight Gone Bad" competition. So what is Fight Gone Bad? It is a crazy exercise that involves 1 minute of each of the following with as many reps as possible, followed by one minute rest. Repeat for 3 total rounds. How hard can 17 minutes be, right. Ha!
So the five stations are:
  • Push Press (Women's standard 55lbs / Men's standard 65 lbs)
  • Box Jump (24 inches)
  • Sumo Dead lift High Pull (Women's standard 55lbs / Men's standard 65 lbs)
  • Wall Balls (Through a medicine ball to a mark on the wall - Women's standard is a 16lb ball to 8 feet / Men's standard is a 20 lb ball to 10 feet.) and
  • Rowing (for calories)
So I showed up with EVERY intent to scale it. I had not even thought of trying to push press or sumo dead lift at 55 lbs. That's just silly. I was not even sure I could do that many box jumps.
But when I got there Joanne had very different ideas. People kept saying, well if you can lift the weight you should just do it to standard. This logically made sense, but I had never tried to do more than one or two at any time. Well, you can guess I did it to standard (thanks Joanne, Eric, and Hope for pushing me).

My score sucked - 137 - but I guess it is just a starting point. I just REALLY, REALLY need to get some consistency in my life routine so I can exercise more than 1-3 random times a week. It is ironic, that one of the things I enjoy so much I get to do so little. But thanks to Joanne for pushing me and being my partner.

The grand opening was very nice. I am always impressed with the group of people there - their talent, work ethic, camaraderie, and supportiveness. I was very happy for Eric and Vanessa - who are just two genuinely good people. You know the type of people who just do the right thing and have a good heart about things.

Sunday This was another early morning. (Seems like it is a theme.) We met up to go to Vasquez Rocks and do some orienteering. Although it was a little cold, it was a beautiful day. Joanne, Jane, and I headed out as a team (Misdirected).

We were not really pushing ourselves. We were just happy to be outside and having fun together. As it turned out, we finished fourth, but if we had not stopped to take some pictures (and therefore missed a turn) we could have easily come in first. But that's o.k., it was fun. Thanks you guys for a fun day.

So as the weekend came to a close, I realized once again that life is too short to put off the good things. We don't know how many days we will have left on this earth, so we have to make the most of them. While I do need to pay for things, I cannot continue to put off "life" for work.

You're right, consistancy will bring your numbers up.

It's really nice seeing you there, keep it up.

K - Thanks for your encouragement. I truly appreciate it. I just know I can and should do better. That, and I am always very hard on myself. It is a very old habit.
