Mission of the Day:
Our first mission was to try to fix the remote. When John and I went out to pack up the car, the remote did not work. Fortunately, the car unlocks and starts without the alarm going off with the good old fashion key. We headed to the Audi dealer for what we hoped was a battery. Funny, the dealer there did not have a service department. So we were off to find the service department. Then we ended up in the Mercedes service department, not the Audi department.
Finally, we figured out where to be and asked for a new battery. But it was not the battery, apparently it was actually the remote. While we would have gotten it fixed, the service department guy kind of did not get it, so we gave up on trying to fix the remote and headed to New York City.
Mission Number Two: Find a great pastrami sandwich. Truth be told, once we got to the hotel, finding good pastrami was not too difficult. We were off to Katz's deli. We could not choose between pastrami or corn beef. So we got one of each and split it three ways. It was more than enough food - and we had learned from our cheese steak days, that you need to pace yourself.
And as we finessed up, we caught a picture with Mr. Katz - owner of Katz's deli. Although that day he said he did not think we would make the wall - some day he will be asking - some day!
Then it was time to walk off our lunch. So we headed to Brooklyn and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.
But I have to say, if I was someone who lived in New York, all the tourists would drive me nuts. The bike riders had to make sure they did not run over someone who was walking incorrectly in the bike lane. And the walkers still had to avoid everyone just out for a stroll. But what would be cool is making the bridge crossings part of a workout. It is very pretty.
After our walk across the bridge it was back to our hotel, and then off to a Yankee Game at the new Yankee Stadium. So we first had to negotiate the subways, which was not a problem. Two blocks away was the subway and no transfers. It does not get much easier than that.
Jen's mission at Yankee Stadium was to find a good bar, being she is not a big fan of beer and hot dogs. Jen succeeded and thought Yankee Stadium was the best.
John and I, on the other hand opted for the game.
Yankees won and then we were off for a few more drinks - and then somehow it was 2 in the morning and we had to get back to the hotel to get some sleep.
TOMORROW: More New York
