Road Trip: Day Three

Starting Location: Cooperstown, New York

Number of States: 2

Number of Stops: 2

Ending Location: Waterbury, Vermont

Total Miles Traveled: 247

Today started off with breakfast and a short walk to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

This was us at the B&B just after breakfast and before heading out.
We then stopped at Double Day field, where the claim is baseball was invented.
From there we went over to the Hall of Fame.
It was very nicely done with a tone of really cool facts and information.
I think my favorite quote though was this one from Earl Weaver:
Us at the end our visit:
Then we were off to try our hand at it:
After the Hall of Fame, it was off to Albany to hit our first state capital. We had driven through thunderstorms and it was begin to rain again when we got to the Capitol building.
From there we took a drive through the Adirondack mountains.

MISSION: Our mission of the day was simple. Find a way to get from New York to Vermont over Lake Champlain.

So with a AAA map in hand and GPS, we set off to see some of the great scenery.
Here are some scenic views from Ticonderoga:
The initial plan was to take the ferry across to Vermont. It turns out our plan had two flaws though. First, we did not know what time the ferries stopped running. We were hoping since it still is summer it would be at least 8 or so. Turns out we were wrong, which led to our second flaw. So our second flaw was that by the time we made it to the ferry crossing, it was about 25 minutes after the ferries stopped running. So we scouted the map a bit and moved on to plan B. Turns out there is a bridge, who knew? So we drove a bit further north to take a bridge over Lake Champlain and into Vermont. I think ultimately I preferred the bridge crossing to the ferry crossing we never took - at least in terms of the scenery. But I guess we will never know - or at least until the next time I pass through this way. Here is a view of Vermont from the bridge:
Once into Vermont, we drove through the Green Mountains and ended up in Waterbury, which is where Ben & Jerry's is located. Our first stop for tomorrow (and no I still don't eat ice cream so plan on donating my free ice cream to some lucky person).

Tomorrow: Ben & Jerry's, Vermont State Capitol building, the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire, the Maine State Capitol building, and then Boothbay Harbor. So looking forward to lobster!!!!
