Road Trip: Day Nine

Starting Location: New York City

Number of States: 1

Number of Stops: Too many to count

Ending Location: New York, New York

Total Miles Traveled: By car 0, but subway lots, by foot lots.

So Thursday was a day where Jen decided she would take the day to relax. That mean the spa - haircut, mani, pedi - not a bad day for her or a bad choice. John and I opted for being the true tourists. It meant getting up very early and wandering all over. So started in the rain at the Statue of Liberty:

The views of the city from the statue were neat, especially with clouds looming overhead. We then headed to the financial district and the New York Stock Exchange:
We then went to see the World Trade Center site, where there was a tremendous memorial. They are already rebuilding, although there is still much debate as to what should replace the towers.
City Hall:
Cool Court buildings (Yes I am a dork so find these cool):
We were then headed for Little Italy for lunch via Chinatown, where there were lots of fish markets that sometimes smelled like fish you never wanted to eat.
We then grabbed the subway and headed uptown to see the Guggenheim,
the Met:
and then took a great walk through Central Park, where the sun finally came out.
Then it was down to Times Square.
But our day was not done - oh no. It was time to change, try to get some show tickets and grab some food at Carmine's.
The food is good, but there is a lot of it, as everything is served family style. So when we got there, there were no tables for 2, we were sat at a table for six, and our server was asking if we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. Nope! The downside of Carmines with not enough people to try too many things. But we made do! John and I had had a late breakfast of pizza, a late lunch of pasta, so were not too hungry. But we decided we had to suck it up.

Then it was off to Rock of Ages, which is a love story / follow your dreams story build around 80's rock songs from bands such as Poison, Twisted Sister, Journey, Night Ranger, Warrant, White Snake, Europe, Pat Benatar, and so on.

But it was a fun show, that was both entertaining and had some good laughs and some base humor. At one point the narrator was wearing a baseball undershirt that said "Yeah for Boobies." What I discovered was that I know way too many 80's rock songs - as I knew every song by heart. But it was fun when the crowd was all singing along and holding their lighters for encores. (O.k. - they were just lights shaped liked lighters - but it had a similar effect without the singed hair and fingers.)

TOMORROW - New Jersey, Delaware, and Virginia . . . almost the end.
