Road Trip: Day Four

Starting Location: Waterbury, Vermont

Number of States: 3

Number of Stops: 3

Ending Location: Booth Bay, Maine

Total Miles Traveled: 265

Today started in Waterbury, Vermont. There is only one real thing there - Ben & Jerry's ice cream. So we were off for the tour, which also happens to end with free ice cream - which many of you know I don't eat. Anyway, probably the most interesting thing about the tour was learning about how Ben & Jerry got started - which was they were both struggling academically and were looking for a way to make some money. So they took a course in ice cream making and were on their way.

From Waterbury, it was just a short drive to Montpelier and a stop at the Vermont Capitol Building.

After that we were on our way to New Hampshire and the Kancamagus Highway.
Sadly it was raining at the beginning of our drive. But that did not mean we were not treated to some wonderful views.
Then we were off to Augusta, Maine. Most people tell us not to bother that there was not too much there. But we were only there for one purpose: our mission.

MISSION: Get John to climb a tree in front of a state capitol building without getting arrested or injured.

So we were off to the state capitol building. It was another beautiful building, both in and out.

Then we found a tree for John to climb. Disclaimer: no illegal activiity occurred with the climbing of this tree. And this blog is not an admission nor proof of any such thing. Nor was the tree hurt in any way.
Then it was on to Boothbay, Maine, where we were staying for the night. The first stop was the Lobster Dock for Lobster Rolls. (For those of you people who like me did not know what one was, it is generally just pieces of fresh lobster either held together cold with mayo or warm with butter and on a piece of bread.)
The lobster rolls were great:
The views were fabulous:
Can you tell which pelican is the real one? But we were not done. We then had to go over to Dunton's Doghouse - not for hot dogs, but for fried clams.
They were delicious, but the three of us could not finish them after the lobster we had already scarfed down. Too much good food. So we headed to the hotel happy and full!

TOMORROW: Portland, Maine for more lobster, Concord, N.H., and then on to Boston.
